![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm quite certain I could have gone back and done some grinding to get past that spot, but honestly, I couldn't be bothered. That was the tipping point where I went from having a decent time but getting kind of bored to no longer enjoying the game. Of course, then the game immediately threw a SECOND boss fight at you with no break, and the second boss fight? Hot, dank, rotten garbage. I beat said boss, which felt challenging but fair. I was having a pretty decent time, although the battles were starting to feel a little tedious. I played up until the major boss fight after you get the 5th character. The accessory system is neat, but also doesn't feel super impactful outside of a select few accessories. The crafting and relic systems are largely unchanged, although crafted gear feels less impactful. Honestly, my preferred party size is 5, but 4 was good in Ara Fell, and regardless of the size, I'd rather just have a single party instead of extras to swap in and out. The latter means that you have far fewer strategic options, as you're limited to 3 actions per turn instead of 4. The former means that while you get to swap around characters for variety, you don't get as good a feel for each character. The party roster has increased (I believe to 8, although I only got to the 5th character), but the party size has decreased from 4 to 3. The advantage to having full heals between battles is that you can balance them on the expectation that the party will always come in at full power, and that's really not the case here. Additionally, in this game, unlike Ara Fell, you don't fully heal between battles. I wouldn't mind this so much, except I kind of felt that Ara Fell had a really good balance on normal, and that doesn't seem to be present here. The music is still just as good as in Ara Fell, possible even a bit better.Ĭombat is much more difficult. The ultimate gauge has been replaced with team points, allowing for team attacks between two characters, which is a much more interesting and fun idea. The playstyles between characters feel even more differentiated than in Ara Fell, with, for example, Arielle's feeling quite unique. There's a few changes to the combat I like. They are frequently very poorly signposted. The map design is less busy, making things overall easier to read, although it is still far too hard to find map exit points at times. It's still not spectacular, but it's solidly good, the character writing is decent, and the humor hits a bit better. The story, at least as far as I got, is somewhat improved from Ara Fell. In addition, some of the more irritating things from Ara Fell stayed in place. There were a lot of changes between this game and Ara Fell, some of them positive, but a lot of them quite negative. I really wanted to like this, especially after really enjoying Ara Fell, but I just can't recommend this one. ![]()
